About The Position

The Ambulatory Specialty Care Director is the administrative leader responsible for achieving a cost competitive, value driven system of care for the areas assigned to the clinical departments/units/ or service areas (areas of responsibility). Primary functional responsibilities include: Provide administrative and operational leadership for the areas of accountability. Develop and execute the long range, strategic growth plan for areas of accountability considering population health and value-based care. Develop and implement care models/systems that coordinate care for seamless transitions across the continuum. Collaboratively establish standards of care that drive programs, clinical, functional, and financial outcomes and patient and staff satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in applicable field of study for Care Ring/Service Line or must be enrolled and graduate from a master’s program by the date determined by the Chief Nursing Officer or Vice President, Ambulatory Administration
  • Five (5) years of healthcare operations experience in applicable Care Ring/Service Line
  • RN licensure required for Inpatient/Hospital Based Care and Critical Care
  • Knowledge of business management techniques and principles, project management, finance, and statistics at a level normally acquired through a completion of a master’s degree in applicable field to develop and direct objectives and goals and resolve complex management problems
  • Ten (10) years of healthcare operations experience in applicable Care Ring/Service Line
  • RN licensure required for Inpatient/Hospital Based Care and Critical Care
  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Preparing annual reports for their assigned areas of responsibility in collaboration with the Medical Director dyad partner
  • Developing community relationships that align to the goals and objectives of their clinical area
  • Designing and implementing new care delivery models that adhere to organizational standards
  • Assuring non-physician staff care skills are appropriately aligned to job responsibilities
  • Developing and implementing evidence-based practice standards for the clinical care areas within the scope of their responsibility
  • Coaching medical and non-medical team members on quality at the departmental and unit-based levels
  • Defining, setting the standards, and monitoring safety, patient satisfaction, quality, and financial metrics in collaboration with Medical Director dyad partner
  • Developing, maintaining and implementing clinical and non-clinical protocols, policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Medical Director dyad partner to support the delivery of high-quality care and service
  • Developing patient flow models through the care rings and service lines to optimize the patient experience
  • Coordination of care across the care ring / service lines with accountability for the transitions of care processes and maintaining access across the continuum
  • Orienting, onboarding and off boarding medical team members into their areas of responsibility in coordination with Human Resources policies and procedures and the applicable Medical Director dyad partner
  • Accountable for clinical equipment / Supply chain management policies and compliance within their clinical areas of accountability
  • Defining and monitoring clinical, safety and quality outcome metrics
  • Addressing patient complaints
  • Enforcing all staff policies and bylaws
  • Management of the total cost of care and long-term patient outcomes
  • Co-management of the service line/care ring to achieve financial performance targets
  • Non-Physician team member oversight including, a. Team development and employee engagement, Orientation and on-boarding of team members, Leadership development within the team, Allocation of time and scheduling, PTO management, Performance evaluations, Discipline management, Determining compensation in collaboration with HR, Selecting unit/department non-physician operational leaders, Ensuring diversity of provider workforce, Ensuring staff competency for areas of responsibility
  • Participating in strategic planning and visioning for the care rings and service line in conjunction with Medical Director dyad partner
  • Developing strategy for value-based care delivery across the continuum – moving from fee for service, to accountable care to risk based strategies
  • Assess and plan for regulatory and reform (state and federal) changes that impact the service line (this is a different type of regulatory compliance than above)
  • Developing marketing and business growth plans, including new program strategies in conjunction with Medical Director dyad partner
  • Collaborating with payers and employers with finance team members
  • Ensuring optimal patient safety and communication through monitoring of faculty supervision and teaching quality and adherence to agreed staffing models and organizational policies
