About The Position

This role assists RNs with the unique needs of the patient population in an ambulatory setting. Responsibilities include performing clinical functions such as taking vital signs, reviewing medications, and pending medication refills. The position also involves assisting RNs with administrative tasks, providing general support, and covering Epic In Baskets. Under the direction of management, the coordinator will retrieve medical records, obtain prior authorizations, and assist with procedures. This role supports clinic operations by ensuring effective and efficient workflow, maintaining clear communication with team members, referring providers, and patients. The coordinator will also assist with data collection (physical, psychological, social, and cultural) according to practice standards, organize and prioritize patient care activities, and implement age-appropriate interventions as directed by the RNCC or provider. The role requires providing care for all age populations, developing and implementing patient/family teaching plans, ensuring a safe environment, and performing administrative support. Teamwork, professional development of self and others, and recognizing time-sensitive issues are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years clinical experience
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
  • OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic Requirement: Virginia Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist RN with additional and unique needs of the patient population.
  • Perform clinical functions (e.g. vital signs, medication review, pending of medication refills).
  • Assist RNs with administrative tasks and provide general support to RNs.
  • Support clinic functions by retrieving medical record, covering Epic In Baskets, obtaining prior authorizations, and assisting with procedures.
  • Assure effective and efficient clinic operations while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with team members, referring providers, and patients.
  • Assist with patients’ physical, psychological, social, and cultural data collection according to practice standards and institutional policy/procedure.
  • Organize and prioritize patient care activities considering patient and interdisciplinary team needs.
  • Implement age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs as directed by the RNCC or provider.
  • Provide care for all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • Assist to develop and implement patient/family teaching plans based on identified health education needs and condition and age of the patient.
  • Provide for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Perform administrative support responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
  • Contribute to and assist with the professional development of others.
  • Recognize the importance of time sensitive issues.
  • Assume responsibility for professional development of self and others according to departmental policy.
