About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Nutrition, the Ambulatory Nutrition Manager develops, promotes, and maintains nutrition services within ambulatory areas. This role applies principles of nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and program management to assist clinics in providing high-quality nutritional care to all ambulatory patients at Boston Medical Center. The manager works closely with nutrition leaders to foster a cohesive nutrition team and collaborates with clinic management teams to support staff workflow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a closely related field (prior to Jan. 2024).
  • Master's degree (after Jan. 2024, per Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics guidelines).
  • Completion of an ACEND-accredited Didactic, Coordinated, Graduate or International program.
  • Completion of required supervised practice/experience through an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship (DPD), Coordinated Program, Graduate Program, or an Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as a registered dietitian, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered Dietitian certification.
  • Massachusetts State Licensure.
  • Analytical skills necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively manage employees within an assigned unit/department.
  • Ability to persuade and negotiate with peer-level managers.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflicting views or issues and mediating fair and workable solutions.
  • Strong clinical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree and prior leadership experience preferred (prior to Jan. 2024).
  • Prior leadership experience preferred (after Jan. 2024).
  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Experience in Medical Weight Management, Obesity, Diabetes, and Malnutrition preferred.
  • Experience with Management or Leadership, preferred with greater than 2 years, including mentoring, precepting, and supporting individuals and groups.
  • Advanced Certifications in Board Certified Specialties as recognized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), preferred. Including, but not limited to: Diabetes, Obesity & Weight Management, Nutrition Support, Oncology, Renal, or other recognized board certification.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing staffing and implementing training for Registered Dietitians (RDs) and dietetic interns/students.
  • Interviewing, hiring, orienting, and training RDs to provide quality medical nutrition therapy services.
  • Creating and managing scheduling for RDs and collaborating with clinics for ongoing scheduling needs.
  • Monitoring the efficiency and competency of RDs.
  • Conducting chart audits, annual performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
  • Supporting staff in training and mentoring Dietetic Interns, Medical Students, or Pharmacy students.
  • Scheduling and attending RD meetings and ongoing training/learning for staff.
  • Maintaining regulatory practices and overseeing policy review and implementation.
  • Ensuring RDs maintain appropriate credentialing and professional development.
  • Creating and revising nutrition-related hospital-wide policies and guidelines.
  • Developing, coordinating, and ensuring compliance with nutrition policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary BMC nutrition committee on nutrition safety events and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting the nutritional care of patients in collaboration with RD staff, Nutrition Leaders, and providers.
  • Overseeing the development of or developing and maintaining patient education materials.
  • Working with clinic leaders on creating and maintaining RD schedules.
  • Collaborating with Clinic Operations teams to adhere to managed care/billing guidelines.
  • Working with clinic management teams to ensure a high level of nutrition service and efficient daily operations.
  • Conforming to hospital standards of performance and conduct.
  • Utilizing hospital’s Values as the basis for decision-making.
