About The Position

The Ambulatory Assistant Program Coordinator (APAC) - Breast Clinic role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with the unique needs of the patient population in an ambulatory setting. Key responsibilities include performing clinical functions such as taking vital signs, reviewing medications, and processing medication refills. The APAC also provides administrative support to RNs, retrieves medical records, manages Epic In Baskets, obtains prior authorizations, and assists with procedures under the direction of a manager. This role supports effective and efficient clinic operations by maintaining clear communication with team members, referring providers, and patients. The APAC assists with data collection (physical, psychological, social, and cultural) according to practice standards, organizes and prioritizes patient care activities, and implements age-appropriate interventions as directed by RNs or providers. The position requires providing care for all age populations, developing and implementing patient/family teaching plans, ensuring a safe environment, and demonstrating teamwork. Additional duties may be assigned, and the APAC is expected to contribute to and assume responsibility for professional development of self and others.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years clinical experience.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
  • OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic Requirement: Virginia Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist RN with additional and unique needs of the patient population.
  • Perform clinical functions such as vital signs, medication review, and medication refill requests.
  • Assist RNs with administrative tasks.
  • Provide general support to RNs.
  • Support clinic functions by retrieving medical records, covering Epic In Baskets, obtaining prior authorizations, and assisting with procedures.
  • Assure effective and efficient clinic operations while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with team members, referring providers, and patients.
  • Assist with patients’ physical, psychological, social, and cultural data collection according to practice standards and institutional policy/procedure.
  • Organize and prioritize patient care activities considering patient and interdisciplinary team needs.
  • Implement age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs as directed by the RNCC or provider.
  • Provide care for all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • Assist to develop and implement patient/family teaching plans based on identified health education needs and condition and age of the patient.
  • Provide for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Perform administrative support responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
  • Contribute to and assist with the professional development of others.
  • Recognize the importance of time sensitive issues.
