About The Position

Prince George’s County Government is seeking qualified applicants for an Alternative Fuel Program Specialist (Transit), (Engineering Technician 3A) grade A20 position, in the Office of Transportation/Transit Fleet & Facility Division. This role reports to the Section Chief, Fleet and Facilities, and is responsible for the daily oversight and strategic planning, coordination, and monitoring of the transit Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) program. The position supports programs and initiatives that promote alternative fuel vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, encompassing vehicle operations, charging operability, general maintenance, and facility infrastructure design and usage. The specialist will coordinate across multiple departments to provide input and recommendations based on data analysis and best practices for efficient ZEB fleet and alternative-fueled bus operation.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by college level courses in higher mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry) and civil engineering.
  • Four (4) years of para-professional engineering experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license.
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in multi-modal transit operations or transportation service
  • 1+ years of experience working with or managing alternative fuel vehicles
  • Experienced Master Electrician and/or Project Management Professional (PMP), Renewable Energy Professional (REP), or clean energy certification.
  • 3+ years of project budget management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors zero emission bus operation and maintenance, including charging/fueling strategies, and provides recommendations to operations/maintenance contractor for managing associated utility costs to the County.
  • Observes and reports the state of the alternative fuel fleet and facility (microgrid) maintenance program.
  • Develops vehicle/equipment specifications and makes recommendations based on data analysis of the electric bus program operation.
  • Investigates service issues with the alternative fuel program, and monitors field location corrective measures.
  • Performs analysis of alternative fuel program usage and trends.
  • Develops and maintains an alternative fuel asset management plan.
  • Assists the supervisor in developing fiscal recommendations for annual program budgets.
  • Provides oversight and audit of inventory related to vehicle maintenance.
  • Monitors use of equipment and inspects equipment, vehicles and office areas, and recommends maintenance services as required.
