About The Position

Creekside Community High School is seeking an Advanced Math teacher to teach a range of math courses and serve as an Advisor in our small, relational, alternative high school community. At Creekside, math instruction is grounded in access, confidence, problem-solving, and real-world meaning. We are looking for a teacher who can help students experience math as understandable, useful, and within reach while maintaining rigor and high expectations. The Advanced Math teacher will work with Creekside learners in courses such as Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, applied math, financial math, statistics, math support, or other flexible math offerings based on student needs and licensure. Like all Creekside teachers, this teacher will also serve as an Advisor. Advisors are the primary relational anchor for a small group of students. They build relationships with students and families, monitor progress, support attendance and engagement, and help students plan for graduation, future pathways, and personal growth.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon teaching license with an appropriate Advanced Mathematics endorsement, or the ability to obtain appropriate Oregon licensure prior to assignment.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Proven track record of work with at-risk student population required
  • Make some independent judgments within prescribed policies and procedures
  • Employ good judgment in a variety of situations, including emergencies
  • Work with a variety of students and demonstrate a willingness to gain the information and training necessary to work effectively
  • Possess the characteristics and understanding to be an effective member of an educational support team
  • Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and complete work within established time lines.
  • Communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the exercise of both empathetic and disciplinarian approaches
  • Maintain a confidential, non-preferential manner an non-judgmental attitude towards the students, staff, and program
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, and general public
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches classes following District approved curriculum
  • Conducts conferences and communicates with parents as necessary
  • Follows District standards including reporting concerns, abuse and infractions of student handbook policies
  • Works effectively and collaborates with the building administrator and work team or grade level
  • Demonstrates effective classroom management techniques
  • Understand and complies with Oregon Teacher’s Stands of Competent and Ethical Performance
  • Serve as an Advisor, building relationships with students and families, monitoring progress, supporting attendance and engagement, and helping students plan for graduation, future pathways, and personal growth.
