About The Position

The Allied Music Therapist will independently plan and facilitate music therapy groups, document client progress, and attend treatment team meetings. Draws from research in the field and previous experience to independently design therapeutic musical tasks that meet a variety of needs, interests, and abilities. Facilitates music therapy groups using a variety of methods. Assesses client needs and interests as well as musical and non-musical behaviors at outset of treatment and establish individual therapeutic goals. Plans, reviews, and assesses therapy sessions to monitor effectiveness as well as aid planning for future sessions. Observes, evaluates and documents both client behavior and content of musical contributions in group progress notes, offering insight into psychological implications of music-making and verbal processing when applicable. Teaches clients basic technical music skills, as needed to facilitate clients’ therapeutic progress. Expands clients’ music vocabulary, providing clients with a wider range of communication skills. Provides clients with exposure to various genres of music and a context for viewing and interpreting it through music analysis. The Allied Therapist - Art provides weekly art group services and therapeutic support to consumers. Utilizes art therapy techniques and psychotherapeutic methods to support social skills, promote honest verbal and visual expression, encourage growth and catharsis through art process, build self-esteem and confidence, understand and identify emotions, and promote positive peer interactions and communication. Maintains coordination and collaboration with lead clinician and treatment teams. Maintains positive working relationships with consumers, direct care staff, and treatment team. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide support for consumers in coping with trauma, mental health, and behavior issues. Plans and facilitates tasks supportive of consumer treatment goals, and conducts individual sessions as needed. Attends weekly treatment teams meetings, documents all group and individual sessions. Must be able to work independently

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy/Counseling with MT-BC credential required
  • Driver's license must be in good standing, with no recent suspensions or violations of careless/reckless driving or excessive speeding of more than 20 MPH, and no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years
  • Must be able to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Music Therapy/Counseling preferred
  • Master's Degree in Art Therapy/Counseling
