Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Art, Art Therapy, Counseling, or healthcare-related field is required.
  • Minimum of 2 – 5 years of related work experience required.
  • Eligibility to sit for certification and maintaining certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Art Therapy is preferred.
  • Certification in Recreational Therapy is desired.
  • Certification in Art Therapy through the Art Therapy Credentials Board is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Use a wide range of artistic activities to improve physical, cognitive, emotional, social, spiritual, and leisure functioning of patients.
  • Use a wide range of therapeutic activity and community-based interventions and techniques to improve the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, spiritual, and leisure functioning of patients.
  • Develop programs with measurable goals that incorporate specific abilities, tolerance, and interests into therapy to achieve optimal outcomes that transfer to real life situations.
  • Organize and facilitate individual and group art programs/projects for assigned patients to enable a greater quality of life.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic interventions consistent with the patients’ needs and interests.
  • Locate, develop, and stay current on clinical and community resources available to enhance patient programs and outcomes.
  • Develop curriculum to enhance treatment.
  • Develop and implement individualized home and community plans for the patients' residential program.
