Alliances Manager

WellTheory
$120,000 - $160,000Remote

About The Position

WellTheory is growing its presence in the benefits consulting community, building relationships with the national and regional firms employers trust most. As these relationships deepen, we need a dedicated owner focused on the consulting world. We're looking for an Alliance Manager to build WellTheory's presence in the benefits consulting community: developing relationships at national and regional consulting houses, educating consultants on our model and outcomes, and becoming a valuable resource for their client conversations. You'll work alongside our employer sales team, ensuring consultants have what they need to bring WellTheory to the right clients. This is a hands-on, high-ownership individual contributor role. You'll report to our CEO initially, then to our Head of Commercial.

Requirements

  • Know the benefits consulting world deeply — with 5–10+ years of experience either working at a consulting house (Mercer, Aon, WTW, Gallagher, or comparable) or leading alliances or consultant relations at a digital health company. You understand how these firms differ, how their practices are structured, and how they work with their employer clients
  • Experience building a category, not just selling in one. You’ve worked in environments where the solution didn’t fit neatly into an existing box—and you know how to educate the market, not just compete in it. You’re comfortable introducing new models of care, creating urgency where there isn’t yet awareness, and getting decision-makers to see problems—and possibilities—in a new light. You thrive on pioneering a category that doesn’t yet exist, and you’re as energized by shaping the narrative as you are by closing the deal.
  • Strong verbal and written communicator. You consider yourself to be more of an expert in storytelling rather than “sales.” You have strong presentation skills and love to be in front of an audience. On top of that, you also know how to craft an effective written communication (i.e. emails, proposals, etc.). You’re thoughtful about word choice and comfortable with others editing important external communications you send out.
  • Roll-up-your-sleeves mentality. There’s no job that’s too small and you’re excited to get into the weeds to figure it out—even the most unsexy or complex. You thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment—you know when to move fast, when to get scrappy, and when showing up in person can make all the difference.
  • Consultative approach. You treat partnerships as exactly that, not transactions: asking thoughtful questions, uncovering unspoken needs, and guiding partners toward new perspectives. You know how to read the room, meet partners where they're at, and figure out when to push and when not to.
  • Creative and agile. You recognize that the way sales are being done is changing and evolving. Given that, you have unique ideas on how to get in front of consultants and how to tackle tricky roadblocks that might come up in the sales process. You’re not set in your ways and know how and when to change course.
  • Organized and diligent. You're the kind of person who can coordinate a consultant dinner at a conference, run a lunch-and-learn at a firm's office, and follow up with everyone who attended — without letting anything slip. While you're skilled at juggling multiple tasks, you also have a strong intuition about keeping the main thing the main thing and you are comfortable being self-directed about where trust-building time goes.
  • Spending time in person is a key part of building relationships, so this position will require significant travel. The ideal candidate should be willing to travel 50% of the time on average with certain times of year reaching 75%.
  • Empathy for the autoimmune experience. You don't need to have an autoimmune condition for this role but you need to have deep empathy for the lived experience of autoimmune patients and be able to effectively convey that to potential partners.
  • Beginner's mindset. You have a love of learning and like to solve problems from the ground up. You're a curious person and embrace the opportunity to explore the unfamiliar aspects of your role, ask questions, and seek understanding without fear of judgment. You openly admit when you make mistakes and are open-minded when it comes to new approaches of problem-solving.
  • Unreasonably relentless. You've been called a "force of nature" and have done something most people wouldn't (e.g., ran a marathon, started a company, got a degree while working full-time, and/or overcame difficult adversities). Persistence is your middle name and you don't give up easily.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at a benefits consulting firm in a consulting or client management role
  • Experience with sales at a best-in-class digital health company (e.g., Maven, Carrot Fertility, Hinge Health, Progyny, Kindbody, Brightline, etc.) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deepen relationships at priority consulting houses — becoming WellTheory's primary point of contact for benefit consultants and their account teams
  • Develop our consulting house engagement strategy: which firms and practices to prioritize, how to engage, and what content to bring
  • Present WellTheory's model and outcomes data to consultants and practice leads and represent us at industry events where consultants gather
  • Partner with Marketing to create consultant-facing materials, distinct from our employer-facing story
  • Keep our sales team and consultants connected, ensuring consultants always have current, accurate information about WellTheory when it's relevant for their clients
  • Bring what you learn back to the team, consultant feedback on our positioning, where the market is heading, and how we can be a better partner to the consulting community

Benefits

  • A team that genuinely cares about each other and the members we serve
  • A fully remote company that gathers every year for an annual retreat
  • Compensation: $120–160K base salary and bonus, with the final amount depending on directly relevant skills and experience you bring to the role
  • Meaningful equity and benefits
