About The Position

This position is responsible for handling livestock in a hog yard environment. Duties include sorting, counting, weighing, tattooing, and penning all animals. The Associate Hog Buyer also learns Tyson Pork Procurement Programs, carcass merit, kill sheet information, weight docks, and other buying procedures. The Associate Hog Buyer also acts as a station relief buyer in the absence of the manager for training and vacation relief.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in animal science or agriculture preferred.
  • Livestock experience required.
  • Swine or cattle experience preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with drivers.
  • Highly motivated in running a successful business.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Overnight travel required.
  • When filling in for Shift Manager, supervisory responsibilities are required.
  • Minimal bending is required depending on the ability to motivate hogs with the Team Members voice.
  • Minimal amounts of lifting are required to use the flag (less than 5 pounds).
  • Tattoo hammer is lifted and weighs less than 5 pounds.
  • Some pushing/pulling may be required to open and close gates or drag downed hogs and to tattoo hogs.
  • Reaching with the flag is required to move hogs as well as to tattoo hogs.
  • A full hand grasp is used when holding flags, tattoo hammer, and gates.
  • Team members are required to stand or walk for the entire shift.
  • Minimal force is required for most tasks. Moderate to heavy force may be needed when moving down animals.
  • Team members may be required to wear a hard hat, steel toe boots, or hearing protection.
  • The temperature of the work area is seasonal and depends on outside temperatures; may reach more than 95 F.
  • The team member performing this position understands that the functions performed could affect product safety, legality, and quality systems.
  • Alley Buyer will keep the team member apprised on job functions to meet the above requirements.
  • The team member will complete the necessary qualification requirements for the job assigned.
