About The Position

People Incorporated Mental Health Services is seeking an Alcohol and Drug Counselor intern to join our team. The ADC Intern will have the opportunity to lean about People Incorporated services and receive on-the-job experience working with clients and collaborating with other members of an interdisciplinary team. Schedule: 20 hours per week, Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Location(s): People Incorporated Access and Recovery Center in St. Paul: 317 York Ave, 55130 Hiring Range: $25.00 per hour People Incorporated Mental Health Services is the largest nonprofit mental health provider in Minnesota. Learning Objectives: Develop clinical case conceptualizations that integrate substance use, mental health, medical, and environmental factors. Incorporate recovery-oriented, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approaches into treatment planning. Demonstrate effective therapeutic communication and rapport-building skills with diverse populations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Alcohol and Drug Counseling program or related behavioral health program.
  • Eligible to complete a clinical internship as required by their educational institution.
  • Working toward licensure or certification requirements established by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
  • Basic understanding of substance use disorders, recovery concepts, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Foundational knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, person-centered care, trauma-informed practices, and recovery-oriented services.
  • Familiarity with ASAM Criteria and the treatment planning process.
  • Previous experience working with or knowledge of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness, chemical dependency, developmental disabilities, and/or other health conditions that impact mental health.
  • Interest in working with adults experiencing serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, or behavioral health crises.
  • Ability to meet program and academic requirements for an internship or practicum placement.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous volunteer work, or practicum experience in human services or behavioral health is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive assessments with clients with person centered care.
  • Meet with clients 1:1
  • Facilitate groups
  • Timely Documentation
  • Ensure that all daily tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Attend all required and assigned meetings and training, including weekly Clinical Review
