About The Position

The Reno Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking a full-time, experienced Airport Operations Specialist Supervisor to lead a team of Airport Operations Specialists. This role involves providing leadership, support, coaching, and direction to the team in their daily duties, which include serving as the eyes and ears of the airport, performing daily operations and security tasks, conducting unarmed patrols, managing access control, responding to incidents, assisting travelers, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The supervisor will exercise full discretion and autonomy over airport security services and operations during both non-emergency and emergency situations in the absence of other leadership. A key responsibility includes reviewing the RTAA’s Airport Security Program for compliance with Title 49 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 1540, 1542, and 1544. Success in this role requires strong communication, the ability to establish effective working relationships, assess and prioritize emergency situations, respond appropriately, exercise sound judgment, interpret complex policy directives, and handle customer interactions with tact and finesse, all within a TEAM-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in aviation management, public administration, business administration, criminal justice, justice management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible management experience in a security or operations related field (preferably within an aviation environment), which includes at least two (2) years of lead and/or supervisory experience.
  • Certification as an Airport Security Coordinator is required within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada’s Driver’s license upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct staff responsible for the activities/operations of RTAA’s terminal and security services, ensuring compliance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and RNO Rules & Regulations.
  • Stay abreast of evolving security trends, technologies, and regulations, providing recommendations for system and procedural enhancements.
  • Oversee the daily workflow, schedules, and assignments of security staff including security guards and desk clerks.
  • Supervise the inspections and screening of goods, people, and premises.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information regarding reports, investigations, and suspicious activities of team members and guests.
  • Control of airfield gate access.
  • Patrols of public and restricted areas of the Airport.
  • Identify and resolve security and terminal operational issues and initiate resolutions, aircraft gate assignment requests and providing other assistance as able to travelers and airport tenants.
  • Liaise with law enforcement, emergency services, and relevant stakeholders during security emergencies.
  • Adhere to and uphold all RTAA values, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Subject to be recalled back to work as requested for emergency situations.
