About The Position

The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is recruiting for a full-time Airport Maintenance Crew Leader located at the Waterbury/Oxford General Aviation Airport, located in Waterbury, CT. This position is first-shift, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with hours to be determined upon hire. Overtime work is required on nights, holidays, and weekends, with mandatory overtime from November 1st through April 30th for snow removal, which can last for several days and nights. The role involves planning crew workflow, scheduling, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing work, establishing crew procedures, providing staff training, conducting performance evaluations, acting as a liaison, requisitioning materials, and participating in crew duties. Incumbents may also be required to stand by for and respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations and may need to complete an asbestos removal program. The CAA operates Bradley International Airport (BDL) and five general aviation airports, aiming to enhance Connecticut's airports and support economic development.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of skilled experience in the maintenance and repair of airport runways, roads or related structures.
  • Applicant must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal and Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) duties, when those services are needed.
  • This position requires using permitted techniques for wildlife management and will require a safety course relative to that requirement.
  • Airport safety and security are a priority.
  • In-state travel is required.
  • Knowledge of the approved methods of maintaining and improving runways, roads and related drainage structures.
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used in runways and road maintenance and construction.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.
  • Supervisory ability.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in snow removal operations at an airport.
  • Experience with appropriate chemicals and treatment methods utilized for airport movement area surface treatment during winter weather events.
  • Experience applying relevant FAA Advisory Circular criteria to the overall year-round grounds maintenance activities of an airport.

  • Experience and proven familiarity with FAA Advisory Circular standards for airfield markings and hands-on experience of airfield painting procedures.
  • Past supervisory experience.

Responsibilities
