About The Position

Denver International Airport’s Field Department is looking for an Airport Field Technician II. In this position, you will execute full performance journey level construction, maintenance, and repair work on a wide variety of linear assets and federally regulated airport surfaces with a focus on asphalt, concrete, and earthwork large, complex, or difficult projects. Employees work in the FAA-regulated Air Operations Area (AOA), requiring enhanced security clearance and airfield driving certification. All maintenance must comply with federal regulations, including CFR Part 139 and FAA Advisory Circular.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, asphalt, concrete, and earthwork at an airport.
  • Two (2) years of airfield snow removal experience and/or experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "A") with appropriate endorsements at time of application.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") at time of application.
  • Flagger certification is required at the time of application or within six months of probation.
  • Required to obtain and maintain Airport ID badge and LAR driving privileges.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN).
  • Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment.
  • By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs paving operations in a wide variety of applications to include multi-lane roadways, taxiway shoulders, runway shoulders, and parking lots. Troubleshoots and resolves problems related to pavement quality and the paving process.
  • Performs advanced installation and analysis of concrete curb and gutter, full panel installations, spall rehabilitations, and foundation work. Quality control throughout the mixing process, placement of concrete, and uses advanced finishing techniques.
  • Installs, maintains, and monitors ADA compliant pavement surfaces.
  • Trains lower-level employees in the accurate application of pavement maintenance.
  • Sets grade and reads grade stakes for roadway maintenance, earthwork, and construction. Follows blueprints to excavate, backfill, and shores trenches for electrical and plumbing installations.
  • Participates in airfield snow removal duties and operates large, complex specialized industrial equipment in accordance with the nature of the work and the efficiency of airport specific multifunctional snow removal equipment.
  • Performs vegetation management by eradicating and controlling invasive weed species. Documents product use and location to track compliance.
  • Repairs and revitalizes eroded areas and maintains water management areas to include ponds and channels.
  • Maintains and monitors water management areas to include ponds, channels, and ditches.
  • Constructs, maintains, and repairs roadway structures to include shoulders, guardrail, fencing, and signage. Leads team to perform roadway, movement, and non-movement closures to initiates construction zones to facilitate maintenance.
  • Ensures all notifications, barricades, signage, lighting, and any other appropriate device is in place to prevent an unauthorized aircraft, vehicle, or person from entering a closed runway, taxiway, or service road.
  • Performs airfield movement driving and escorting.
  • By position, collaborates with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wildlife Management in monitoring and managing various forms of wildlife that are incompatible with airport operations (e.g. prairie dog colonies, birds, deer, etc.).
  • By position, maintains airfield primary surfaces by performing rubber and paint removal work.
  • By position, creates, designs, and installs landscaping projects such as pavers and decorative rock. Maintains and repairs professionally landscaped areas.
  • Monitors computerized weather reporting systems to monitor and interpret weather conditions and determine appropriate response.
  • Responds to airfield emergencies, playing a crucial role in escorting ambulances, fire rescue vehicles, buses, and other first responders during airport emergencies in support of the emergency response plan. Transports emergency response trailers to the scene and assists with the command-site setup.
  • Responds to emergency clean-up of vehicle accidents.
  • Responds to after-hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
