About The Position

Outagamie County is seeking candidates for an Airport Custodian position on a casual call basis. The Custodian is responsible for keeping assigned areas of the terminal clean and orderly. This role requires at least basic custodial or janitorial experience, with on-the-job training provided for equipment use. The position offers flexible hours based on business needs, with shifts potentially falling between 4:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D.
  • Two years of maintenance experience required
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the Department as well as the Outagamie County Work Rules and Terms of Employment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use equipment and tools for minor maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to perform minor equipment, building, and grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and follow standard safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work semi-independently making sound decisions using good judgment.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers, co-workers, tenants, general public, etc.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and figure simple mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to walk, stoop, climb, bend, stretch; push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Performs heavy cleaning work, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping waxes, buffing floors, washing walls, windows, and woodwork, dusting and polishing furniture, cleaning restrooms, and replenishing supplies.
  • Operates related equipment including manual and automatic floor scrubber, rug shampoo machines, wet/dry vacuum, snow brooms, etc.
  • Removes paper and trash from designated areas including fencing and curbing.
  • Assists with the removal of snow and ice.
  • Arranges and moves furniture to accommodate meetings.
  • Collects recyclable materials from designated areas and deposits in appropriate container.
  • Performs minor maintenance functions in terminal building.
  • Monitors terminal safety and security, reporting any problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers customers' questions, giving directions as necessary.
  • Conducts TSA required inspections for suspicious packages as required.
  • Escorts non-cleared visitors, vendors and repair people and monitors their activities as required.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
