About The Position

The Better at Home program is seeking a dedicated individual to fill a crucial role that contributes significantly to the success of our services. This position entails providing essential light housekeeping and laundry services to seniors who live independently in their own homes. More than just maintaining a clean environment, this role is about fostering meaningful social connections. It offers emotional support and companionship, which are just as vital as the practical assistance provided. The role includes a structured social connection component, which complements the housekeeping tasks by incorporating a system to monitor the health and well-being of our community's vulnerable seniors. Through this combination of social engagement and housekeeping, the position aims to build and maintain consistent, supportive relationships between the Smithers Community Services Association (SCSA) and the seniors we serve, ensuring their safety, comfort, and happiness.

Requirements

  • Grade 10 education.
  • Knowledge of good customer service techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all individuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and appropriate relationships with residents and/or their families/representatives.
  • Ability to comply with safe work practices.
  • Possesses good listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality and sign a pledge of confidentiality.
  • Undergo a Criminal Record Check.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in performing light housekeeping duties is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential housekeeping services to participants.
  • Ensure that living spaces are clean, safe, and promote well-being.
  • Perform light cleaning tasks and maintain hygiene in high-risk areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Keep pathways to essential areas such as the kitchen and bathroom clear of debris.
  • Engage with seniors to build a sense of connection and community.
  • Communicate effectively with the Program Coordinator to ensure a steady supply of cleaning materials.
  • Accurately maintain participants' records.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of participant information and adhere to professional boundaries.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.
