About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, implement, administer and counsel units and leadership on individual, family, and community issues on the Family Readiness Program in the Air Force Reserve. Duties include serving as the principal advisor to leadership, organizations, and populations serviced by the FSS Commander on human services matters. This involves identifying and assessing family needs and concerns (e.g., family separations due to deployment, training, parenting, child care, elder care, financial, etc.) and program priorities. The role also establishes, defines, and implements requirements for Airman and Family Readiness programs to ensure operations align with regulatory and fiscal requirements, support goals, and mission requirements. It involves determining family needs, program priorities, and the effectiveness of unit and community family programs. The position plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Airman and Family Readiness Flight, developing goals and objectives that integrate organizational and Airman and Family Readiness Flight objectives to build and enhance installation unit and family readiness through center-based, unit-based, and community outreach delivery. Additionally, the role supports and participates in quality initiatives by establishing marketing strategy and public relations programs to ensure target populations are informed of services and programs on- and off-base agencies.

  • If authorized, PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations.
  • If receiving an authorized PCS, you may be subject to completing/signing a CONUS agreement.
  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • This position is Centrally Managed; PCS is authorized and will be paid by the career field.
  • Position requires employee to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or an on-call status
  • Employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for TDY or conferences.

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Degree: Behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
  • OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrate that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
  • OR Combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Applying knowledge of social services delivery systems as well as a wide range of concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields.
  • Exercising skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options when frequently there is difficulty in determining clients' needs or wants or in convincing them to accept that problems exist.
  • Exercise skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families, leadership of organizations, and with program representatives and officials.
  • Applying the ability to assess and measure organizations' trends, concerns, and needs; assist in identifying and prioritizing goals; and provide guidance and direction for the development and implementation of effective plans and tools to address such issues.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of social services delivery systems as well as a wide range of concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields.
