About The Position

Under the general direction of the Electrical Manager and Airfield Electrical Supervisor, installs, maintains, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and restores airfield and non-airfield electrical systems supporting DFW Airport operations. Performs work and may lead electricians and contractors in accordance with FAA Part 139 Airport Certification requirements, applicable FAA Advisory Circulars, the Airport Certification Manual (ACM), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and DFW Airport policies to ensure safe, reliable, and regulatory-compliant operation of critical airport electrical infrastructure.

Requirements

Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
Six (6) years of experience maintaining commercial, industrial, airport, utility, or medium-voltage electrical systems.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
Possession of a Master Electrician license issued by the State of Texas.
Ability to work rotating shift assignments.
Ability to pass a color vision deficiency test.
Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
Possession of a valid Class B CDL driver’s license within one (1) year of hire. Operator’s licenses with an “L” restriction are not acceptable.
Knowledge of FAA Part 139 Airport Certification requirements, Airport Certification Manual (ACM), and FAA Advisory Circulars applicable to airfield electrical systems.
Knowledge of FAA AC 150/5340 series standards governing airfield lighting systems and visual navigation aids.
Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety regulations, and electrical lockout/tagout procedures.
Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage electrical distribution systems.
Knowledge of electrical protective devices, switchgear, transformers, relays, and emergency power systems.
Skill using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Ability to interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, FAA standards, construction specifications, and manufacturer technical documentation.
Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and regulatory documentation supporting FAA compliance.
Ability to identify non-compliant conditions and recommend corrective actions to maintain operational readiness.
Ability to work safely in active movement areas while maintaining continuous airport operations and minimizing operational impacts.
Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical distribution systems using advanced diagnostic equipment.
Ability to perform electrical switching and isolation procedures safely.
Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, relay logic, and electrical schematics.
Ability to work independently on critical airport infrastructure during non-routine situations while coordinating shift operations to maintain business continuity.
Ability to solve problems that are typically difficult and non-routine.
Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting FAA Part 139 inspections, Airport Certification activities, and implementation of corrective actions preferred.
Experience maintaining FAA-compliant airfield electrical systems at a commercial service airport preferred.
Working knowledge of FAA Part 139 requirements and FAA Advisory Circulars related to airfield lighting preferred.

Responsibilities

Guides FAA Part 139 compliant airfield electrical systems maintenance including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, approach lighting, guidance signs, PAPIs, REILs, stop bars, guard lights, apron lighting, obstruction lighting, and associated control systems.
Installs, maintains, repairs, and tests medium to high-voltage electrical systems and equipment throughout DFW Airport including terminals, roadways, parking facilities, maintenance facilities, and utility infrastructure as well as switchgear, transformers, substations, feeders, and protective relays in accordance with applicable safety standards.
Leads preventative and corrective maintenance on Airfield Lighting Vaults (ALVs), constant current regulators (CCRs), isolation transformers, series circuits, monitoring equipment, control panels, relay systems, and associated infrastructure.
Guides switching, isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and restoration of electrical distribution systems in accordance with established safety procedures.
Coordinates technical support during emergency incidents, utility failures, severe weather events, and airport operational disruptions.
Diagnoses electrical faults using advanced testing equipment including insulation resistance testing, circuit tracing, fault locating equipment, power quality analyzers, infrared thermography, and other diagnostic tools.
Trains, delegates, and reviews the work of lower-level employees.
Works safely around aircraft movement areas, energized electrical equipment, heavy equipment, roadway traffic, and construction zones.
Assists other departments, contractors, utilities, and DFW Airport Stakeholders in support of airport operational needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
