Airfield Management Specialist - Direct Hire Authority

Department of the Air Force Headquarters•Hill AFB, UT

About The Position

The Airfield Management Specialist provides direct support to aircrews as part of the air traffic control system, helping plan and conduct safe flights. The specialist provides pilots with pre-flight, enroute, and post-flight services similar to those offered by a Federal Aviation Service Station, and coordinates with military, federal, international, and local agencies on flight planning, training, route use, flight movement messages, search and rescue, and contingency and operational plans. The role includes inspecting the airfield, ensuring compliance with airfield standards, and representing the Airfield Manager during emergencies and the manager’s non-duty hours. The specialist plans, organizes, directs, and controls airfield activities in support of flying missions, ensuring services comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs. Daily inspections identify flying safety hazards, including potential foreign object damage, and violations involving airfield clearance criteria, lighting, markings, and pavement. The specialist gives pilots the information needed to complete flights safely and assists with preflight decisions and calculations where required. This is an Air Force acquisition demonstration project position at NH-02, equivalent to GS-05 through GS-11. Work includes going outdoors in all types of weather to inspect the airfield.
