About The Position

Responsible for performing daily grounds and airfield maintenance. This position requires airfield and ramp driver permitting. The individual is responsible for knowing, understanding, and adhering to driving procedures and rules and for successfully completing annual refresher training. This individual is responsible for becoming progressively more knowledgeable in assigned tasks, procedures, techniques, and required tools in order to maximize efficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in grounds maintenance, required.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as: backhoe, tractor, bush-hog, and riding mowers, required.
  • Must have sufficient math skills to properly calculate chemical ratios, and materials needed in pavement repair.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Shall be knowledgeable and capable in the operation of hand and power tools used in grounds maintenance.
  • Must be physically able to operate various equipment, including but not limited to; backhoe, tractor, forklift, manlift, and riding mowers.
  • Must be able to operate vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, and those equipped with a manual transmission.
  • Must have the ability to operate dump trucks and other commercial vehicles.
  • Must be able to reverse travel by backing trailers, and pull type bush hogs.
  • This individual must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with fellow associates and supervision.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Commercial or Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicators License in Category 3 (Turf & Ornamental) and Category 6 (Right of Ways), or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a background investigation, drug screening, and physical examination as per Federal, State, and GSP Airport District requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in safety programs, safety training, and have total commitment and compliance with all company safety and environmental policies.
  • Immediately report any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Daily cleanup of all grounds to include aircraft operation area (AOA) and roads on Airport property.
  • Perform airfield grounds maintenance including pavement inspections, preventative maintenance, pavement repairs, pavement markings, gate and fence repair, erosion control, grass mowing, grading, and any other grounds maintenance activities necessary for compliance with 14 CFR Part 139.
  • Maintain proper grades at pavement shoulders, NAVAIDs, manholes, drop inlets, and other airfield appurtenances to comply with 14 CFR Part 139.
  • Maintain drop inlets, outfalls, riprap ditches, detention ponds, and other storm water drainage system components to enable proper drainage and ensure ponding does not occur.
  • Sweeping (FOD removal) of airfield pavement, to include AOA, ramp areas, parking areas, streets, and roadways with various types of sweeping equipment.
  • Maintain perimeter fencing, signage, and gates.
  • Perform maintenance of painted lines and markings on runway, taxiways, aprons parking lots, streets, and roadways.
  • Perform inspections and repairs to all airport concrete and asphalt pavements; to include runway, taxiway, apron, roadways, sidewalks, and parking areas.
  • Cut grass on and around airfield, edge lights, signs, light lanes, and fence lines. Clear brush on hillsides, drain ditches, and fence lines around airfield.
  • Application of herbicides and pesticides on and around airfield to control undesirable vegetation/brush and insects; to include invasive species control in timberlands and other land use areas.
  • Ground maintenance duties to include but not limited to, mowing, trim work erosion repair, roadway and gravel access road repairs, etc. on various properties leased by the Airport district and other land use areas.
  • Assist in removal of dead or damaged trees, tree limbs, leaves, trash, etc.
  • Install, repair, and clean all road and directional signs.
  • Perform prep work and painting of various facility items, including but not limited to planters, bollards, floors, walls, and equipment.
  • Pressure cleaning various concrete and metal structures.
  • Wash and clean airport vehicles.
  • Cleanup of pre-assigned areas and workspaces.
  • Cleaning of Airport water features.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal activities.
  • Performs other duties necessary to keep the Airport attractive and operating safely.
  • Responsible for setting an effective pace and for minimizing interruptions in the completion of tasks.
  • Will be required to work with limited supervision in an effective and safe manner.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.
  • Fill in for Airfield Grounds Lead as requested.
