About The Position

The Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic (Contractor) is responsible for performing heavy maintenance and modifications on Dash 8 and King Air aircraft. This role involves examining and inspecting aircraft components, conducting routine and special inspections, and ensuring maintenance meets standards. The mechanic will interpret maintenance manuals and directives to perform repairs and modifications, maintain repair logs, and replace or repair worn components. They will also assemble and install various aircraft systems, manage inventory, and check for structural integrity. The position requires performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, complex repairs, fabrication, and disassembly/assembly of aircraft components. This includes performing sheet metal bends, working with various metals, and utilizing adhesives and sealants according to technical data. The mechanic must be able to read and interpret a variety of technical documents, complete required paperwork, maintain a safe work environment, and communicate effectively with their Team Lead. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5 years + recent hands-on experience performing heavy aircraft maintenance and modifications
  • Extensive knowledge of sheet metal principals, tools, and techniques
  • High school education required
  • Must provide own tools, shadowed and etched
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Ability to: lift, balance, and carry 50 lbs, crawl in and out of tight spaces, and predominantly work in enclosed hangars, occasionally in exterior weather conditions or elevated heights

Nice To Haves

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant license preferred
  • Relevant trade school or military training equivalent for aircraft structures preferred
  • Some college preferred
  • Experience working in an AS9100 / ISO 9001 or DCMA environment preferred
  • Experience working under FAA Part 145 or demonstrated knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

  • Examine and inspect aircraft components, including landing gear, hydraulic systems, and deicers to locate cracks, breaks, leaks, or other problems
  • Conduct routine and special inspections as required by regulations
  • Inspect completed work to certify that maintenance meets standards and that aircraft are ready for operation
  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals and FAA/manufacturer publications and directives to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components
  • Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance
  • Modify aircraft structures, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications
  • Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment
  • Read and interpret pilots' descriptions of problems to diagnose causes
  • Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand or power tools
  • Inventory and ordering supplies, parts, materials, and equipment
  • Check for corrosion, distortion, and cracks in the fuselage, wings, and tail
  • Perform scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance, minor and major airframe repairs working in a high-quality, efficient manner
  • Perform various complex modifications, structures repair, fabrication, plan, layout and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components
  • Remove, replace, and repair aircraft structure and components with use of special tooling utilizing applicable technical data
  • Perform sheet metal bends to guidelines and specifications
  • Use shop mathematics to determine curves, angles, pitch, etc.
  • Work with various kinds of metal such as: honeycomb material, aluminum and aluminum alloys, titanium, stainless steel, etc.
  • Utilize various glues, sealants, epoxy, pro-seal, and in addition to other chemicals/consumables as required per applicable technical data
  • Read and interpret manufacturer Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, Repair Drawings, Structural Repair Manuals, Service Bulletins, technical directives, drawings, blueprints, and schematics etc. to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing damaged aircraft structure components.
  • Properly complete required paperwork to comply with Federal Regulations and applicable company policy/procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment and report any unsafe conditions
  • Maintain communication with assigned Team Lead for task updates and status reports
  • Maintains responsibility for proper execution of parts tag instructions in accordance with Repair Station Quality Control Manual
