This role involves performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on ordnance, ordnance-related equipment, and armament systems for aircraft. The mechanic will maintain and repair aircraft armament weapons systems, fire warning/extinguishing systems, and troubleshoot aircraft armament systems, adhering to OPNAVINST 8024. A key aspect of the job is employing appropriate safety precautions, security procedures, and record-keeping techniques for ordnance. The position also requires operating and performing maintenance on armament weapons support equipment and aircraft armament equipment, as well as loading and unloading airborne weapons and stores aboard aircraft, including reconfiguration and functional testing of weapons release and control, missile, and gun systems. Responsibilities extend to removing, maintaining, servicing, installing, and loading aircraft guns, arming and de-arming aircraft, and conducting functional tests of racks, launchers, adapters, and electrical components. The mechanic will configure or reconfigure aircraft for the carriage of aviation ammunition, identify munitions by type and hazard, and transport explosives. Ammunition inventories and stock records will be maintained, and compliance with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series and knowledge of technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS are required.
