About The Position

This position involves performing modifications, removals, replacements, and reinstallation of aircraft structures. The role requires fabrication of parts, ensuring structural integrity, and utilizing various shop equipment and hand tools for aircraft structural maintenance. Responsibilities include developing and determining structural repair and replacement requirements, fabricating metal, plastic, phenolic, and fiberglass parts, and assisting in report preparation. The mechanic will also perform optical alignment checks, provide technical assistance, maintain records, and use schematics and drawings for troubleshooting and repairs. Additional duties include performing aircraft inspections, engine, flight control, and landing gear rigging, and potentially performing off-site service and collateral duty inspections. The role also encompasses troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing aircraft engines, airframes, and systems to ensure airworthiness, as well as repairing and replacing major aircraft structures. Determining repair feasibility, removing and replacing engines, and performing miscellaneous duties like cleaning and lubrication are also part of the job. Maintaining a clean work area, adhering to FOD prevention and tool control programs, and documenting work are essential. The position may require standing rotating shifts and traveling.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an I Level Airframe Structural Mechanic, or satisfactory completion of T45 OJT Program.
  • Must be familiar with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics and normal safety requirements.
  • Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CAC and required clearance by Government.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Navy aircraft structural repair AMS “A” or “B” school or equivalent aircraft structural repair courses preferred but not required.
  • FAA Airframe license, desired, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs modifications, removal, replacement and reinstallation actions; part fabrication; layouts, templates, etc., for structural integrity, quality and completeness of work.
  • Adjusts, sets-up, trouble shoots, repairs, and demonstrates correct usage of shop metal working equipment, hand tools, powered tools, fastener installation tooling and fixtures that are used for aircraft structural maintenance.
  • Develops, designs, recommends, and determines structural repair and replacement requirements and procedures to include but not limited to fastener and material type, damaged area cutouts, etc.
  • Develops, designs, recommends, inspects and determines metal, plastic, phenolic and fiberglass part fabrication procedures and template requirements to include layout, fastener and material type, quality and completeness of work.
  • Assists in P&E report preparation.
  • Sets-up and uses sight levels and transits. Performs aircraft optical alignment checks as required.
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required.
  • Maintains and/or completes required records and applicable maintenance forms.
  • Use schematics, drawings, charts and other applicable publications to troubleshoot, repair, test and modify assigned systems.
  • Performs aircraft inventory, acceptance and transfer inspections.
  • Performs engine, flight control and landing gear rigging.
  • May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.
  • Turn-up aircraft as required.
  • May be required to perform collateral duty inspection assignments.
  • Troubleshoot, service and repair aircraft engines, airframes and systems to ensure air-worthiness.
  • Repair, replaces and rebuild major aircraft structures such as wings, fuselage, empennage and landing gear systems.
  • Performs aircraft surface controls, engine and landing gear rigging.
  • Determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components using manufacturer’s manuals, service bulleting and applicable publications.
  • Remove and replace aircraft engines utilizing appropriate support equipment.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to include turn flushing, cleaning, lubing of aircraft systems and components.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for adhering to Company Tool Control Program.
  • Documents work accomplished on Maintenance Action Form (MAF) or NALCOMIS System.
  • Must be able to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing and able to stand rotating shifts.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
