About The Position

Amentum is seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic 3 to support U.S. Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. This role involves managing, inspecting, performing, and directing organizational-level maintenance and modifications on EA-18G aircraft, sub-systems, support equipment, related weapons systems, and Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS). The mechanic will advise team members, solve complex maintenance issues through analysis and testing of various aircraft systems including missiles, airframes, engines, flight controls, pneudraulics, fuel, and electrical/electronic systems. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of military aviation maintenance training or technical school, seven years of aircraft experience, and specific experience with the F/A-18 platform and maintenance control supervision. A Secret clearance is required, along with the ability to meet physical requirements. Travel is also expected for this position.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Must have completed military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum.
Seven (7) years actual and recent aircraft experience required.
Three (3) years F/A-18 experience.
Three (3) years F/A-18E/F/EA-18G QAR/CDQAR with maintenance control supervisory required.
Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Organizational Level maintenance of the assigned aircraft.
Possess a level of experience necessary to inspect all aircraft assigned, direct flight line/deck operations, certify Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries and possess one or more of the specialties: Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems, ARS pods, Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold, Hydraulic/Pneumatics, and Mechanical flight Control System, Egress and/or Environmental Control Systems; Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS), Avionics Communication /Navigation / Identification/Electronic Countermeasures/RADAR and Weapon Control Systems, Power Distribution/Electrical Power, Instruments, Compass, Automatic Flight Control and Lighting Systems, Corrosion (Paint and Final Finish).
Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft maintenance mandatory.
A strong working knowledge of quality assurance processes in aviation maintenance.
Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils required.
Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
Possess a Secret clearance.
Meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned task.
Position requires travel.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, ventilation and heating systems and ALSS equipment.
Repair and/or replace aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, ALSS, machines, and equipment.
Read and interpret manufacturers and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Perform hourly, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.
Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments.
Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, tests engine operation, using testing equipment.
Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassemble and install engine in aircraft.
Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft.
Enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
May service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
May specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair.
Provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
Prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
Provide guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
Inspect the aircraft for tools and other foreign objects that could potentially put the aircraft or aircrew at risk.
Inspect the aircraft to certify that all maintenance performed by the team is correct and complete.
Certify entries in Aircraft/Engine Logbooks made by contractor employees.
Assign project/priority codes and direct cannibalization actions to meet the unit’s maintenance plan and daily flight schedule.
Perform inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation services supporting the specified aircraft and aeronautical equipment systems.
Perform administrative duties related to aircraft maintenance such as preparing reports and correspondence, filing, and typing; performing data base and system analysis; maintaining aircraft and engine logbooks, and associated records.
Participate in emergency response drills on detachment as required, including flight deck/line and hangar firefighting, emergency reclamation and salvage drills, and aircraft movement drills.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned, requested, or directed by local directives.
Continuously develop and maintain a safe work environment.
