About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic III is responsible for support of highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries. This role involves performing scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications of aircraft structures, structural components, and engines. The mechanic will maintain and repair aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. They will apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and use technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data like blueprints and manufacturer manuals. The position requires a thorough understanding of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting and repair procedures, as well as aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair. The ability to determine the functionality of complex electrical systems is also essential. The role includes performing various inspections (preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections), launching and recovering aircraft, performing operational checks of all aircraft systems, and maintaining aircraft appearance and cleanliness. The mechanic will operate ground support equipment, use applicable tools, and perform ground movement of aircraft. Maintenance actions must be accurately documented in aircraft records and IMDS entries. The position also emphasizes good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness, and safety practices. The role may require travel (TDY) and performing duties in other related occupational fields. The ability to work various shifts, including day, second, night, and/or weekend shifts, is required. Additionally, the mechanic must become proficient in three maintenance classifications (aircraft general, jet engines, and pneudraulics) through Cross Utilization Training (CUT).

Requirements

A Minimum of a High School Diploma or a GED required.
Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment is required.
Must have a working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and know how to operate portable firefighting equipment.
The ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications are required.
Must possess an FAA A&P certificate.
Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
US Citizenship is required to obtain the clearance.
Must be able to obtain & maintain a flightline driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Three years’ working knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations is preferred.

Operate all associated ground support equipment and use hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft.
Perform all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms and complete associated IMDS entries.
Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness and prevention, and safety at all times.
Perform other duties related to the occupational field as assigned, including TDY and travel.
Work day shift, second shift, night shift, and/or weekend shift as required.
Become proficient to perform maintenance in three classifications (aircraft general, jet engines, and pneudraulics) through Cross Utilization Training (CUT).
