About The Position

Amentum is seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic 3 to support U.S. Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. This role involves managing, inspecting, performing, and directing organizational-level maintenance and modifications on EA-18G aircraft, sub-systems, support equipment, related weapons systems, and Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS). The mechanic will also advise team members and resolve complex maintenance issues through analysis and testing of various aircraft systems, including missiles, airframes, engines, flight controls, pneudraulics, fuel, and electrical/electronic systems.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum.
  • Seven (7) years of actual and recent aircraft experience.
  • Three (3) years of F/A-18 experience.
  • Three (3) years of F/A-18E/F/EA-18G QAR/CDQAR with maintenance control supervisory experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
  • Ability to perform general Organizational Level maintenance of assigned aircraft.
  • Experience inspecting all aircraft assigned.
  • Experience directing flight line/deck operations.
  • Experience certifying Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries.
  • Possession of one or more of the following specialties: Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems, ARS pods, Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold, Hydraulic/Pneumatics, and Mechanical flight Control System, Egress and/or Environmental Control Systems, Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS), Avionics Communication/Navigation/Identification/Electronic Countermeasures/RADAR and Weapon Control Systems, Power Distribution/Electrical Power, Instruments, Compass, Automatic Flight Control and Lighting Systems, Corrosion (Paint and Final Finish).
  • Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft maintenance.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality assurance processes in aviation maintenance.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils.
  • Ability to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
  • Possess a Secret clearance.
  • Meet physical requirements and/or pass medical examination requirements.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, ventilation and heating systems, and ALSS equipment.
  • Repair and/or replace aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Interpret technical documentation, including manufacturer and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and engineering data, to determine repair or replacement methods.
  • Perform various inspections, including hourly, phase, periodic, and other scheduled inspections.
  • Inspect jet engines and components for defects such as cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, and wear, and test engine operation.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves.
  • Remove, disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble engines, and reinstall them in aircraft.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Perform pre-flight, through-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Service aircraft components, including flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, documenting work performed and verifying satisfactory completion.
  • Service engines and airframe components at line stations, performing repairs short of overhaul to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Specialize in the repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, or engine repair.
  • Provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
  • Prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules.
  • Make entries in aircraft logs and records, and provide guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians during modifications and maintenance.
  • Inspect aircraft for foreign objects that could pose a risk to the aircraft or aircrew.
  • Certify that all maintenance performed by the team is correct and complete.
  • Certify entries in Aircraft/Engine Logbooks made by contractor employees.
  • Assign project/priority codes and direct cannibalization actions to meet maintenance plans and flight schedules.
  • Perform inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, and preservation/de-preservation services for specified aircraft and aeronautical equipment systems.
  • Perform administrative duties related to aircraft maintenance, including preparing reports, correspondence, filing, and typing.
  • Conduct database and system analysis.
  • Maintain aircraft and engine logbooks and associated records.
  • Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, reclamation, salvage, and aircraft movement drills.
  • Adhere to Amentum's safety culture and quality policy, ensuring compliance with all applicable documents and contracts.
  • Implement general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
