About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic 2 (Sheetmetal/Structures UH-60, AH-64, CH-47) repairs and replaces aircraft structural components including stingers, longerons, bulkheads, beams, and aircraft skin according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals, and safety procedures. This role may involve performing any AM1 task and overseeing repairs, fabrication, modification, and installation of structural parts. Responsibilities include forming blocks, shaping metal using various techniques, mixing and applying fiberglass materials, balancing rotary-wing aircraft blades, and making repairs to transparent plastic windows and enclosures. The position requires the use of common and precision measuring tools, alignment fixtures, and the ability to mix and apply primers, paints, and corrosion control treatments. Aircraft technicians and mechanics will be guided on various tasks. The role involves performing checks, carrying out inspections, and removal of components. Comprehension of technical manuals, blueprints, and engineering drawings is essential. The mechanic will requisition bench stock, prepare requests for turn-ins and repair parts, and use common and special tools, performing operator maintenance on them. Final checks on assembly and installation of replaced parts are required, along with preparing forms and records related to aircraft maintenance. Responsibilities also include removing and disassembling defective parts, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and adhering to company policies and safety programs with a safety-first mentality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid up-to-date A&P license (optional)
  • Three years aviation maintenance experience.
  • Two years rotary wing aircraft experience.
  • Two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS).
  • All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox.
  • Must be able to travel as required for TDY missions. Travel up to 75% of the time.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Passport and be able to travel internationally (applicable to OCONUS work sites).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press machine, sheet metal brakes and sheers and those listed in the assigned MDS Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC).
  • Very good knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Sheetmetal/Structural Mechanic.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift/push/pull heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
  • Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
  • May work in maintenance shop or outside.
  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
  • May be expected to work in austere environments and all-weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired; certification of education level is required.
