About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic II (Power Plants) role involves performing intermediate-level maintenance and modifications on power plants and related sub-components. This position requires a combination of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical systems of moderate difficulty. The mechanic will contribute to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC) and Estimated Cost of Damage (ECOD) preparation, and assist in recommending changes to Maintenance Work Orders (MWO). Individuals must be able to prioritize workloads and lead teams through complex aircraft-related tasks. The role includes inspecting other mechanics, maintaining and repairing aircraft structures and components (including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components), and applying technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions. This requires interpreting technical documentation like blueprints and manufacturer manuals, troubleshooting, and performing repairs and part replacements. A broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, basic electrical theory, and specialized aircraft tools is necessary. The incumbent will receive technical guidance from supervisors, potentially lead teams, and may make entries in aircraft logs and records. Prioritization of workload to meet schedules is essential. Specialization in sheet-metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems may be required.

Requirements

Aircraft Mechanic II (23022) with experience to repair engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
Ability to prioritize workloads.
Ability to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
Ability to inspect Mechanic IIs and Is.
Maintain and repair aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
Maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.
Apply expertise in restoring equipment condition and/or operation.
Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals.
Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
Working knowledge of technical publications.
Familiar with duties assigned to personnel within all work centers.
Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs.
Knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
Ability to write with clarity and technical accuracy.
Exhibit effective leadership qualities.
Ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.
Individual (I) Aircraft Maintenance Qualification.
Power Plants “C” school or USMC/USCG equivalent.
Five years extensive knowledge of Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).
Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) required.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
Must be able to use hand and power tools.
Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.

Nice To Haves

Ten or more years’ experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA
Ten years extensive knowledge of Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).
Familiarity and ability to use military tech manuals.
Advanced Corrosion Control Course
Attended Quality Assurance Admin course or Equivalent.
Preferred to have 2 years Aviation Intermediate experience within last 3 years.

Responsibilities

Perform Intermediate level maintenance and modifications on power plants and related sub-components.
Troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
Perform general Intermediate Level maintenance.
Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF).
Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
Engage in Maintenance Control planning and management.
Document aircraft maintenance actions via logs, records, forms, and electronic means.
Operate and inspect Support Equipment (SE).
Perform Corrosion Control/Aircraft Painting.
Perform preservation/de-preservation.
Perform General Aircraft Maintenance.
Handle ordnance, limited to unjamming related equipment/ALSS maintenance.
Ensure Technical Directive compliance and modifications.
Manage Individual Material Readiness List (IMRL), and Metrology and Calibration (METCAL) Program.
Maintain Aircraft, Engines, and SE Logbooks.
Perform Aviation Life Support System (ALSS) Maintenance.
Manage Central Technical Publications Library Programs.
Serve as Dispersed Technical Publications Librarian.
Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment.
Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment.
Perform shift work and/or overtime as required.
Perform other tasks as directed.
