About The Position

Tiffin Aire, a subsidiary of Hartzell Propeller, is seeking an Aircraft Cylinder Machinist to join their team in Tiffin, Ohio. This role involves the inspection, repair, machining, and overhaul of aircraft engine cylinders in accordance with manufacturer specifications, FAA regulations, and company quality standards. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, with examples of competency working with hands (e.g., body work, crate repair, general wrenching, construction).
  • Manual dexterity for detailed handwork.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute written instructions (experience with process standards).
  • Experience with entering and retrieving data from a computer (computer skills).

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certifications or training in composite materials or aircraft/marine mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect aircraft engine cylinders for wear, cracks, corrosion, and other defects.
  • Measure and verify critical dimensions using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, honing machines, grinders, and milling equipment.
  • Perform cylinder repairs, including honing cylinder barrels, replacing valve guides, machining valve seats, and restoring components to manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct or assist with non-destructive inspections (NDT) as required.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, work instructions, and repair specifications.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and repair documentation in accordance with FAA regulations and company procedures.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and applicable safety requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machining equipment and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Collaborate with quality control personnel, inspectors, and technicians to ensure timely completion of repairs.
