About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic II (Ordnance – CDI Team Leader) is responsible for performing a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty to meet assigned missions. This role provides input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC), Estimated Cost of Damage (ECOD) preparation, and assists in recommending changes to Maintenance Work Orders (MWO). The individual must be able to prioritize workloads and lead teams through complex aircraft-relevant tasks. This mechanic maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components, as well as aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. They apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operational condition. This role requires comprehensive technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical documentation like blueprints and manufacturer manuals. A thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and parts replacement is essential, along with broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair. Basic knowledge of electrical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft-specific tools are also required. The incumbent will receive technical guidance from supervisors or higher-level technicians, occasionally lead teams, and may make entries in aircraft logs and records. This position requires the ability to prioritize workloads to meet schedules and may require specialization in sheet-metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems disciplines.

Requirements

• Four or more years’ F/A-18 aircraft maintenance experience
• Qualified and certified Ordnance CDI Team Leader IAW OPNAVINST 8023.24 and MCO 8023.3D
• Must be able to work shift maintenance as required.
• Must be able work flexible work-week schedules as required.
• Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and work on top of and below aircraft
• Must be able to use hand and power tools.
• Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
• Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.
• Satisfactory completion of a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquiries (ANACI) resulting in eligibility for a SECRET clearance shall be required of employees assigned to perform: Maintaining Aircraft Logs and Records, Maintaining F-18 A-D Avionics Systems, Mix and/or application of Low Observable or RADAR Absorbent Materials
• Must be eligible for Common Access Card (CAC).
• Knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and basic supply procedures.
• Experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
• Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
• Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
• Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
• Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems.
• Ability to perform general Organizational Level and Limited Depot Level maintenance.
• Possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft: Ordnance Systems and related Sub-Systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties as Ordnance CDI Team Leader
• Familiar with duties assigned to personnel within all work centers.
• Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series, Navy, and Company Instructions.
• Assists in coordinating aircraft moves and static display requirements.
• Performs all other required duties as applicable and assigned by supervision.
• Performs aircraft organizational level maintenance functions on F/A-18 A-D aircraft.
• Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned F/A-18 A-D aircraft
• Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation
• Maintain aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture outlined in the activities plan and daily flight schedule
• Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft egress systems and subsystems.
• Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment.
• Inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft components/sub components to include rigging of flight control.
• Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
• Confined space operations to include fuel cell entry
• Support Equipment (SE) operation and inspections
• General aircraft maintenance
• Requisition repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.
• Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment
• Perform shift work and/or overtime as required
• Perform other tasks as directed.
