About The Position

AVIAN is looking for an Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) Air Vehicle Operator (AVO)/Air Vehicle Pilot (AVP) to operate Group 1-2 (below 55 pound) and/or radio controlled (RC) equivalent platforms during research development test & evaluation (RDT&E) flight evolutions. The UAS AVO/AVP may also serve as both an internal/external AVO/AVP and ground launch/recovery crew. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in any combination of the areas listed under Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to get and maintain an FAA Class 2 medical certificate.
  • Significant previous experience with Group 1-2 UAS and/or significant previous experience with RC aircraft up to 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance. Minimum Secret Clearance; Top Secret desired.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with EW, Radar and Electro-Optical Counter UAS Systems and test techniques and methods.
  • Familiarity with autopilot systems to include ArduPilot and PixHawk.
  • Design/build/tuning experience with RC and/or UAS aircraft.
  • Previous Group 1-2 UAS; Rotary and Fixed Wing Pilot designations
  • Experience with NAVAIR Test Planning and Reporting processes
  • Team Leadership Experience – Manpower, Planning, Scheduling, Resource Allocation
  • Familiarity with PAX River Airspace, it’s use and scheduling
  • Previous UAS/RC Instructor Qualification

Responsibilities

  • Operate Group 1-2 UAS, and/or RC equivalent aircraft during RDT&E ground and flight evolutions, while controlling the air vehicle using a transmitter/controller box /tablet.
  • The AVO/AVP may also serve as a Group 1-2 UAS operator utilizing internal (ground control station or similar hardware) control of the aircraft.
  • When not in control of an air vehicle, the AVO/AVP may also be required to act as ground launch/recovery crew.
  • Support ground maintenance of RC/UAS systems.
  • Support test data collection compilation efforts by ensuring that all data items are collected, annotated, and delivered to test data analysis facilities as required.
  • Participate in pre-mission briefing for test missions
  • Planning, executing, and reporting for developmental test projects.
  • Coordinating with project engineers to develop test points, test cards, and test metrics.
  • Writing test reports
  • Communicating with project stakeholders on results and mission impact.
