About The Position

Join CAE in building the first of its kind exciting air traffic services division. CAE is looking for experienced Air Traffic Services Instructors to train the next generation. Under this first-of-its-kind partnership in Canada, CAE instructors will deliver initial training for Flight Service Specialists and Air Traffic Controllers using NAV CANADA’s training curriculum and courseware. The first classes will begin in the fall of 2024 at a new purpose-built Air Traffic Services Training Center on CAE’s campus in Montreal. This agreement leverages the expertise of two Canadian industry leaders to innovate and address future air traffic management requirements. As the world’s largest aviation training provider, CAE is uniquely positioned to work hand in hand with NAV CANADA, the second-largest Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) worldwide, to develop a highly proficient workforce and ensure the safety and efficiency of the air traffic system. The partnership will provide additional training capacity as NAV CANADA continues to fully deliver existing training programs from its training units across the country. In this role, the Air Traffic Services Instructor will be responsible for the delivery of classroom and simulator based instruction of the generic initial Air Traffic Services (ATS) training programs, in accordance with the appropriate regulatory and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the minimum qualification and experience requirements approved by Transport Canada to act as an Air Traffic Service (ATS) Instructor prior to delivering ATS content.
  • Working knowledge of ICAO and/or Transport Canada Air Traffic Control regulations.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an Air Traffic Services operational position.
  • Demonstrated passion for training and talent development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a strong customer orientation in adverse or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong focus on quality, continuous process improvement, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to concentrate and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to change and adjust priorities accordingly.
  • Fluency in English and/or French (instruction will be delivered in English and/or French based on language proficiency).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in Canada as a Flight Service Specialist, Tower Controller, or Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Controller.
  • Prior experience working as an instructor.
  • Holds an existing instructor qualification issued by a recognized Regulatory Authority.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom training and simulator briefings in a thorough, professional manner, in accordance with CAE standards.
  • Conduct simulator sessions in accordance with customer Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Act as invigilator for theoretical examinations, simulator examinations, and progress checks.
  • Complete client training records accurately and comprehensively to ensure client understanding and a seamless handover to other instructors.
  • Recommend remedial training when a client is not meeting required training progress.
  • Record simulator usage and discrepancies using established procedures.
  • Participate in update or refresher training related to ATS or instructional principles, as required.
  • Act as a subject matter expert contributing to the continuous improvement of curricula, courseware, and training processes.
