About The Position

Midwest ATC Canada team at Southport is growing, and we’re looking for a dedicated Air Traffic Controller to join our collaborative and high-performing operation. In partnership with Kelowna Aerospace Defence Programs, we deliver specialized support services to our client, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Reporting to the ATS Supervisor, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant movement of aircraft within the airport and surrounding airspace in accordance with Transport Canada regulations. Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Completion of NAV Canada training program or equivalent military training
  • 1-3 years of experience in the aviation industry.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Comfort with standard office equipment and computerized systems (Computer, copier, etc.)
  • Experience using radar and radio equipment
  • Restricted Radio Operator licence is required.
  • Valid ATC licence with a Tower endorsement, or a willingness to attend training to obtain one
  • Current Category 1 or 2 medical certification issued under Canadian Aviation Regulations.
  • Able to successfully obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs to access the designated work location. No alternative access is available.
  • Due to many mandatory vaccination requirements at client projects / facilities, in order to provide substantial employment by ensuring compliance with our clients’ mandates, the successful candidate may be required to validate full vaccination prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Manage radio communications with arriving and departing aircraft
  • Issue landing and takeoff clearances
  • Provide pilots with vital operational information, including runway assignments, wind conditions, visibility, taxi instructions, and traffic advisories
  • Issue air traffic clearances and control instructions
  • Coordinate aircraft movements using direct observation and information from the National Weather Service, IFR control facilities, flight service stations, pilots and other sources
  • Transfer control of aircraft to adjacent facilities and receive inbound traffic
  • Operate and monitor ATC equipment such as telephones, interphones, radar systems, radios, recording devices, weather instruments, lighting systems, and backup systems
  • Alert airport emergency services when aircraft encounter flight difficulties
  • Coordinate with airport vehicles and ground personnel to ensure safe surface operations
  • Maintain and distribute accurate records of daily air traffic operations
  • Participate in on the job training and professional development as required
