About The Position

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is seeking an Air Specialist to join our Air & Noise Group. This role can be based out of any of our Mississauga, Newmarket, or Pickering offices and reports to the Sr. Air & Noise Engineer. We welcome applications from professionals with interest in air quality consulting in Ontario and a background in science. Our Air & Noise Group includes chemical and mechanical engineers, environmental scientists, and technicians with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, and physics. The team supports a wide range of projects for municipal, private sector, and Indigenous clients across land development, industrial, and transportation sectors. In this role, you’ll work on air quality assessments, contributing to projects from analysis through to regulatory submission and review. The level of responsibility will grow with your experience. Burnside’s Air and Noise Group is a small, dynamic group where your level of responsibility is only limited by your capability, desire and enthusiasm.

Requirements

  • A degree in a science-based discipline
  • Strong attention to detail and a personal standard for producing high-quality technical deliverables
  • Solid mathematical aptitude and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary consulting environment

Responsibilities

  • Preparing Air Quality Impact Assessments for submission to the MECP in support of Environmental Assessments (EAs), Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs), Environmental Activity and Sector Registries (EASRs), and land use compatibility assessments
  • Collecting required field or background information
  • Completing technical calculations, interpreting results, and documenting the process
  • Building and running dispersion models using AERMOD and Excel-based tools
  • Preparing Land Use Compatibility (LUC) reports
  • Troubleshooting construction monitoring equipment and reviewing monitoring data and reports
  • Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and contributing to a high-performing technical team
  • Supporting additional project or team needs as required
