About The Position

Throughout this 12-month training program, you will learn how to support field investigations, inspections, and enforcement activities that help maintain clean and healthy air across multiple counties. You will work closely with experienced staff to learn inspection methods, regulatory requirements, and program goals.

Requirements

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Must possess and maintain a REAL ID for this position.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to conduct inspections of air pollution sources and equipment to check for compliance with regulations and permit requirements
  • Review facility reports, inspection findings, and operating information to evaluate compliance status and identify issues
  • Collect samples of fuels and materials to support laboratory analysis used in enforcement and regulatory actions
  • Aid in the investigation of public complaints related to air quality concerns and document findings in the tracking system
  • Work with permitting and operations staff to share site information and support development of accurate facility permits
  • Assist with gathering evidence, preparing documentation and participating in follow up actions for enforcement cases
