About The Position

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States. The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Air Quality Planner to assist with the creation and implementation of strategies to support the transition to alternative fuel vehicles, including supporting the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles for the general public and fleets and planning/implementing associated infrastructure. A successful candidate should have an interest in reducing the air quality impacts of transportation using alternative fuel vehicles, with emphasis on zero-emission vehicles (i.e. battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell). This position will support work of the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition ( www.dfwcleancities.org ) and efforts to implement emission reduction strategies to improve air quality in the North Central Texas region, with an emphasis on complying with National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Work is highly collaborative, working not only with the NCTCOG staff, but with external stakeholders, including local government staff, fleets, citizen groups, associations, and industry representatives. Requirements

  • Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with team members, and present ideas
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and familiarity with Microsoft Teams desired
  • Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods
  • One year or less of work-related experience

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining awareness of the latest developments in the alternative fuel vehicle industry, including topics related to alternative fuel vehicles and associated infrastructure
  • Working with supervisor to implement alternative fuel vehicle projects, such as the Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles Program, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, and the Electric Vehicle Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator Program
  • Working with supervisor to communicate and coordinate regional alternative fuel vehicle and infrastructure efforts
  • Working with supervisor to identify and communicate region-specific best practices to support alternative fuel adoption
  • Assisting with the planning of and attending meetings and outreach events for stakeholders, including educational webinars, peer exchanges, etc.
  • Working with supervisor to identify, develop and maintain grant programs to expand regional adoption of alternative fuel vehicles
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of project and program goals, performance measures, and milestones
  • Drafting for supervisor review, responses to stakeholder inquiries
  • Monitoring the impacts of State and federal policies, rules, and legislation for alternative fuel vehicles
  • Drafting for supervisor review, correspondences, grant applications, technical reports, newsletters, website and social media content, and other documents
  • Assisting with the update and restructuring of key websites, including www.dfwcleancities.org
  • Drafting presentations for supervisor review, with the opportunity to deliver presentations to staff and committee members
