Requirements

  • Two years as an Air Quality Engineering Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Four years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering
  • Graduate study in chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • Meet the PA residency requirement

Responsibilities

  • Assess technology options by reviewing environmental, energy, and economic impacts
  • Develop criteria and background materials for approvals and permits across various source categories
  • Assist in preparing and supporting regulatory materials for statewide air quality programs
  • Determine applicability of federal and state emission standards for industries and consultants
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and responses to questions related to air quality permitting programs
  • Coordinate with regional staff, legal counsel, and federal partners on technology and permitting matters
