About The Position

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is seeking an Air Engineering Specialist to join our Air & Noise Group. This role can be based out of any of our Mississauga, Newmarket, or Pickering offices and reports to the Sr. Air & Noise Engineer. We welcome applications from professionals with interest in air quality consulting in Ontario and a background in engineering. Our Air & Noise Group includes chemical and mechanical engineers, environmental scientists, and technicians with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, and physics. The team supports a wide range of projects for municipal, private sector, and Indigenous clients across land development, industrial, and transportation sectors. In this role, you will apply your engineering knowledge to support and lead air quality assessments, contributing to projects from initial analysis through to regulatory submission and client delivery. With a degree-level foundation, you’ll take on increasing technical ownership, applying sound engineering judgment and problem-solving skills. Requirements

  • A degree in an engineering discipline;
  • Strong attention to detail and a personal standard for producing high-quality technical deliverables;
  • Solid mathematical aptitude and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities;
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary consulting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing Air Quality Impact Assessments for submission to MECP in support of Environmental Assessments (EAs), Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs), Environmental Activity and Sector Registries (EASRs), and land use compatibility assessments;
  • Collecting and evaluating required field data and background information to support robust engineering analyses;
  • Performing detailed technical calculations, critically interpreting modeling results, and documenting the process;
  • Developing, calibrating, and refining dispersion models using AERMOD and Excel-based tools;
  • Preparing and reviewing Land Use Compatibility (LUC) studies with a focus on regulatory compliance and technical defensibility;
  • Supporting troubleshooting and optimization of air monitoring and construction monitoring equipment, including evaluation of system performance;
  • Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and contributing to a high-performing technical team;
  • Supporting additional project or team needs as required.
