About The Position

This position involves clerical, instructional, and student-care duties as assigned, with a focus on supporting students with disabilities in a special education setting. The aide will assist in carrying out the instructional program, maintaining student records, preparing and maintaining instructional materials, and supporting students in self-care activities and therapy programs. The role requires adherence to special education policies, participation in professional development, and providing assistance to teachers and substitutes. Specific duties may include lifting and positioning students, implementing therapy programs, and providing personal care as identified in student IEPs. The position is designated as Non-Exempt and is paid on Grade IS04, with 187 duty days.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test) for Non-Title I campus
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate required once employed
  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, audit folders and data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self care activities such as feeding and toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
