About The Position

This position serves as an Aide for Special Education - Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE). The primary purpose is to assist the teacher with instructional needs as appropriate. The role involves adhering to policies, participating in professional growth, assisting with the instructional program, maintaining student records, preparing and maintaining instructional materials, assisting with teacher-planned activities, and supporting students in self-care and therapy programs. The aide will also assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies and providing necessary non-medical procedures. This role requires providing instructional support and accommodations, personal care as identified in student IEPs, and potentially other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Paraprofessional Educational Aide certificate II required once employed
  • CPI certification once employed

Nice To Haves

  • College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with passing score of 464 on ParaPro test) for Non-Title I campus
  • Additional Qualification for Title I Campus: College hours, 48 minimum or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education paraprofessionals and child care facilities.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in maintaining confidential student records and data for determining student progress.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self-care activities such as feeding and toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the therapy programs which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies.
  • Assist in providing no-medical procedures such as feeding tubes and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  • Provide instructional support and implement instructional accommodations for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
