About The Position

This position is responsible for instructional and student-care duties as assigned, specifically focusing on supporting students with disabilities in an adaptive behavior program. The role involves assisting teachers with instruction, data collection, material preparation, and direct student support, including self-care and adaptive behavior protocols. The position requires adherence to special education policies and procedures, participation in professional development, and potentially managing disruptive student behavior.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus (48 required) or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test.
  • College hours, high school diploma or GED for Non-Title I campus.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate (can be obtained after employment).
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self-care activities such as toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the adaptive behavior protocol.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
