About The Position

This position provides clerical and student-care assistance as assigned to support special education teachers in implementing instructional programs for students with disabilities. The role involves assisting with data collection, maintaining confidential student records, supporting student self-care, implementing behavior intervention strategies, and assisting with instructional materials and equipment.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus (48 required) or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours, high school diploma or GED for Non-Title I campus
  • Communicate and work with students with disabilities
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Minimum clerical skills
  • Good physical and emotional condition
  • Work with confidential material and student records
  • Paraprofessional aide certificate required once employed
  • CPI certification once employed

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education teachers in implementing instructional program for students.
  • Collect data and maintain confidential student records and charts for determining student progress.
  • Assist with self-care of students including toileting, bathing, feeding, etc.
  • Implement activities recommended by support and related service personnel.
  • Implement behavior intervention strategies.
  • Implement recommended assistive technology devices to support programming.
  • Carry out all activities as described in the student’s IEP under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Prepare and duplicate instructional materials.
  • Maintain and clean equipment needed for student program.
  • Provide non-medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  • Assist all students as needed in Special Ed.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
  • Perform other SHARS duties as assigned.
