About The Position

This position assists the teacher with instructional needs as appropriate for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) students. The aide will adhere to federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to special education paraprofessionals and child care facilities. They will participate in in-services and professional growth activities, assist in carrying out the instructional program, and maintain confidential student records. The role involves preparing, using, and maintaining instructional materials and equipment, assisting with teacher-planned activities, and supporting students in self-care activities like feeding and toileting. The aide will also help implement therapy programs, attend professional meetings, and assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies and non-medical procedures such as feeding tubes. Instructional support and accommodations for students are key responsibilities, along with providing personal care as identified in student IEPs. Additional duties as assigned, including SHARS duties, are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED (with passing score of 464 on ParaPro test) for Non-Title I campus
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Paraprofessional Educational Aide certificate II required once employed
  • CPI certification once employed
  • Additional Qualification for Title I Campus: College hours, 48 minimum or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test

  • Familiar with wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, electric changing tables, Hoyer lift, assistive technology equipment-voice output device, various physical therapy equipment, gastrointestinal tube (g-tube).

Responsibilities

  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies
  • Assist in providing no-medical procedures such as feeding tubes and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  • Provide instructional support and implement instructional accommodations for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
