About The Position

Instructional and student-care duties as assigned. This role involves assisting with the instructional program, data collection, and preparing/maintaining instructional materials. The aide will also support students in self-care activities and implement adaptive behavior protocols. Additionally, the position requires providing orientation and assistance to substitute teachers and physically prompting students through instruction, which may involve lifting and positioning. Other duties related to SHARS and personal care as identified in student IEPs may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • College hours for Title I campus 48 required or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
  • College hours 15, high school diploma or GED (with passing score on ParaPro) for Non-Title I campus
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate required once employed
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  • Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Assist in data collection.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Assist when needed in helping students in self-care activities such as toileting.
  • Assist in implementing the adaptive behavior protocol.
  • Attend professional meetings as required.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
