About The Position

This position involves assisting teachers in preparing and adapting instructional materials, maintaining a neat classroom environment, and supporting students with disabilities. The aide will help manage student behavior, assist with personal care needs, and work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills. Responsibilities also include supervising students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, and maintaining confidentiality. The role requires participation in staff development and maintaining reliable attendance. Some aides may drive a bus for specific programs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Competency on CFISD proficiency test (score of 70 or above on both parts).
• After submitting an application, ALL applicants must register online for the proficiency test and bring educational credentials the day of testing.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare and adapt instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment, books, and supplies.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
• Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
• Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
• Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, playground duty, and travel to on-the-job training.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• May drive bus to and from on the job training and other activities (High school LIFE Skills only).
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
• Maintain reliable and regular attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or other school personnel supervisor.
