About The Position

Basata is hiring an AI Workflow Engineer to implement AI agents that answer patient calls and process inbound clinical documents for cardiology and urology practices. Each customer deployment involves distinct systems and workflows, and the role works out those requirements and turns them into practical implementations. The engineer manages multiple customer implementations concurrently from contract handoff through go-live and stabilization, with work split between project management and process design. The role combines implementation delivery, AI workflow design, problem solving, and customer partnership. It is not a software engineering position and does not involve writing production code, though the engineer will read configuration and work closely with engineers. It is also not a pure project management role: the person develops the project plan by understanding the process. Travel is required. The role is based in Tempe, Arizona, or remote with frequent travel.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in program management, implementation, process improvement, business analysis, or a comparable delivery role.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Track record of running concurrent projects with deadlines and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated structured problem-solving ability, including identifying root causes rather than only fixing symptoms.
  • Direct customer-facing experience meeting customer or patient needs.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity, including early deployments without an established runbook.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean/Six Sigma certification, Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Background in health tech, digital health, or practice management software.
  • Familiarity with EMR platforms such as NextGen, ModMed, AthenaOne, Veradigm, eClinicalWorks, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Own multiple customer implementation projects end to end, from contract handoff through go-live and the stabilization period.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders throughout each project's lifecycle.
  • Provide regular status reports and clear communication to internal and external teams.
  • Manage projects against defined phase gates and ensure phases close only when their requirements are met.
  • Provide feedback to the program and project management office to improve best practices and standardization.
  • Observe current-state processes on site alongside the people doing the work.
  • Map workflows using swimlane process maps and validate them with the staff who will use the resulting workflows.
  • Use data to diagnose process failures before designing replacements.
  • Translate findings into agent configuration, routing rules, extraction fields, and escalation paths.
  • Own defect triage during testing and determine what ships, what is deferred, and what is out of scope.
  • Lead kickoff, discovery, user acceptance testing, and training sessions for audiences ranging from front-desk staff to physician owners.
  • Set customer expectations honestly, including when a requested outcome will not work as hoped.
  • Deliver post-go-live reviews supported by data.
