About The Position

This position is responsible collecting and evaluating rooster semen, evaluate and record data in a data base. Must be able to complete all production paperwork or data entry into a computer based tracking system or any tasks related to the job function.

Requirements

Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
Must be able operate tablet.
Experience with Excel.
Must have good communication and listening skills.
The jobsite is an bio secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.
Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company.
No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.
Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Must regularly lift and control hens and roosters weighing up to 16 pounds and carry catch frames weighing up to 10 pounds for distances up to 300 feet.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on a concrete floor; repetitive use of arms to reach and hands to handle or feel animals, objects, or tools up to 8 hrs per day; walk; sit;, or feel objects, tools, or controls; balance; bend and stoop; talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Requires use of hand tools such as pipettors and tips, vials; equipment such as catch frames; safe operation of vehicle to and from work area.
Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
Safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required.
Arm protectors are available if desired.
Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.
These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

Previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.
Previous AI experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Retrieval and meticulous processing of males to collect semen and inverting females to inseminate (30%)
Replace males based on fertility numbers or mortality. Mistake check for hens and roosters. (15%)
Inspection of females for evidence of production (10%)
Utilize microscope/densimeter to determine semen quality; utilize visual to determine semen quantity (15%)
Operation of Motility assay equipment and Microscope Evaluation of semen quality based on parameters like motility, mobility, density, color, and volume.
Collect semen quality data using tablets, laptops, and scanners.
Follow Cobb’s best practices for rooster management and welfare.
Performs simple math [addition, subtraction, multiplication and division] as part of recording information according to instructions and Cobb standards ie: bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality (20%)
Move birds between houses, lab sample swabs, operate a high pressure and regular water hose, maintains foot pans and hand sanitizer, maintain equipment by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and clean/disinfect to remove debris, maintains a clean and organized work area. (10%)
