AI Solutions Specialist

IIAW•Madison, WI

About The Position

IIAW is building an AI practice that will improve how our organization works and help independent insurance agencies and Big ‘I’ state associations use artificial intelligence in practical, measurable ways. As our AI Solutions Specialist, you will build AI agents, assistants, automations, and workflow solutions for IIAW and its members while developing valuable experience at the intersection of technology, insurance, and consulting. This position is designed for a recent college graduate or an early-career professional with up to two years of relevant experience. We are not looking for someone who already knows everything about insurance or has spent a decade in technology. We are looking for a curious builder who learns quickly, enjoys experimenting, can turn ideas into working solutions, and wants to grow with an emerging practice.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, business analytics, engineering, emerging technology, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.
  • One to four years of relevant professional experience. Internships, capstone projects, freelance work, student organizations, hackathons, and personal projects all count.
  • Demonstrated experience building at least one useful AI agent, assistant, automation, chatbot, application, or workflow. We welcome examples from coursework, internships, employment, or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, ChatGPT, Claude, Power Automate, Zapier, Make, APIs, connectors, or similar platforms. You do not need experience with every tool listed.
  • Basic familiarity with coding or scripting—such as Python, JavaScript, JSON, SQL, or API concepts—is helpful, along with the willingness to deepen those skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the persistence to test, troubleshoot, learn from failure, and improve a solution until it works reliably.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical ideas to nontechnical users.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and build relationships with individuals across a variety of roles, experience levels, and technical backgrounds.
  • Good judgment and a willingness to learn responsible practices involving privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, intellectual property, accuracy, and human oversight.
  • Self-direction, curiosity, humility, and comfort working in an environment where technology and priorities evolve quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance experience is not required but preferred. IIAW will provide the industry context and support needed to learn the independent agency channel.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI agents and assistants. Design, configure, test, deploy, and improve solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, ChatGPT, Claude, and other approved platforms.
  • Automate workflows. Connect tools, data, forms, documents, and business processes using low-code platforms, APIs, connectors, or lightweight code when appropriate.
  • Turn needs into working solutions. Meet with staff and members, understand their workflows, identify practical opportunities, and translate those needs into prototypes and production-ready tools.
  • Test and improve. Evaluate output quality, accuracy, reliability, usability, security, and business impact; troubleshoot problems and refine solutions based on feedback.
  • Build reusable resources. Create templates, prompts, knowledge bases, agent components, documentation, training materials, and implementation playbooks that can scale across users and organizations.
  • Support implementation. Help agencies and associations pilot solutions, configure tools, train users, gather feedback, and measure outcomes.
  • Promote responsible AI. Follow IIAW standards for privacy, security, data governance, intellectual property, accuracy, documentation, and human oversight.
  • Teach what you learn. Provide approachable demonstrations, training, office hours, and written guidance for people with varying levels of technical experience.
  • Stay curious. Research emerging AI capabilities and insurance-industry use cases, experiment responsibly, and share recommendations with the team.
  • Manage your work. Maintain project plans, priorities, documentation, and progress updates while asking for guidance when needed.
