About The Position

This is a hands-on engineering role where you will build, deploy, and maintain AI-powered systems that serve the People function and the broader employee base. The work involves transforming complex business problems, such as fragmented knowledge, manual processes, and disconnected tools, into functional software including agents, APIs, applications, and infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with domain experts and stakeholders within the People function to convert their requirements into production systems, while also understanding technical limitations. This role requires a deep understanding of business problems to make independent architectural decisions and ensure the successful deployment and ongoing maintenance of these systems, including hosting, security, and deployment.

Requirements

  • A strong software engineering foundation with experience in building, deploying, and maintaining production applications.
  • Understanding of version control (Git/GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization.
  • Proficiency in systems thinking and technical architecture, understanding how databases, APIs, authentication, hosting, and deployment pipelines interact.
  • Ability to make architectural decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and identify issues in code.
  • Comfort working with Python and a strong ability to think in systems.
  • A builder disposition with experience creating systems, tools, or platforms from scratch.
  • Ability to work effectively across the technical-business boundary, understanding business needs and translating them into technical requirements, and vice versa.
  • Experience integrating with HRIS systems like Workday and knowledge management tools like Notion is a plus.

  • Translate business requirements from People Operations stakeholders into production systems, integrating with tools like Workday and Notion to ensure AI surfaces accurate information from governed content.
  • Navigate and adhere to Affirm's security and data governance infrastructure, including RBACs, data classification, and access policies, to safely run AI systems on employee data.
  • Design reliability infrastructure for multi-model LLM services, incorporating structured output validation, fallback chains, circuit breakers for external APIs, and quality controls to prevent hallucinations.
  • Collaborate directly with non-technical stakeholders to define problems, make architectural decisions, and provide realistic assessments of AI capabilities.
  • Contribute to the team's shared Python codebase, dbt models, and Snowflake infrastructure as part of a full-stack team.
