About The Position

The AI Solutions Developer designs, builds, and operationalizes AI-enabled software and automation for UniPro and its Members. The role works across IT and business teams to turn AI capabilities into useful, maintainable solutions and provides technical guidance to Members evaluating how AI can support their operations. The position combines strong software development practices with current knowledge of large language models, agents, and other emerging capabilities. During the first year, the role is focused within IT: learning UniPro’s operations, improving internal work, establishing repeatable technical patterns and appropriate controls, and determining which solutions are worth scaling. The scope then expands across the business and to Member-facing solutions and consulting. The position reports to the Vice President, Member Technology, has no direct reports, and works with general direction and significant independence through established IT processes and in partnership with teams responsible for affected systems. The role is based in Atlanta, Georgia, on a hybrid schedule. A fully remote arrangement may be considered for the right candidate. Work outside normal business hours may be required to support system issues, problems, or projects. Occasional travel is required, less than 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of professional software development experience, including hands-on work with applied AI, automation, data-intensive applications, or integration solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience taking software beyond proof of concept into production or sustained internal use, including testing, version control, deployment, monitoring, and support.
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders or customers to turn a stated problem into working software and iterate based on real-world performance.
  • Strong working knowledge of appropriate software development technologies.
  • Experience with REST APIs, authentication or OAuth, SQL, Git, and modern software development practices.
  • Hands-on experience with large language model APIs and applied AI patterns such as prompt and system design, structured outputs, tool or function calling, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, or semantic search.
  • Ability to query data, join across sources, validate data quality, and shape data for applications.
  • Experience with production concerns such as automated testing, CI/CD, cloud deployment, logging and monitoring, AI output evaluation, cost and latency tradeoffs, data privacy, application security, and long-term supportability.
  • Strong logical and structured thinking, including the ability to analyze processes and design durable improvements.
  • Process improvement judgment, including the ability to recognize when a better process is preferable to a new tool.
  • Interest in learning business areas including finance, procurement, rebates, Member operations, Supplier relationships, and related data.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts, options, and tradeoffs to non-technical audiences and Members.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and changing technology without pursuing every new tool.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work across Member Technology, Development, Data, Operations, Security, and business teams.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours when needed to support system issues, problems, or projects.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, less than 10% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Snowflake or another cloud data platform.
  • Experience with AWS or Azure.
  • Familiarity with Laravel/PHP, Vue, Microsoft 365 and Copilot, Power Platform, or D365 F&O.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how UniPro operates and map the process behind each opportunity before building a solution.
  • Design and build AI-enabled software, services, agents, integrations, and automation using technologies appropriate to the problem and environment.
  • Develop prototypes and take successful ideas through architecture, testing, security, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and support.
  • Integrate large language model and other AI APIs into applications and workflows using suitable patterns, including structured outputs, tool or function calling, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, and human review.
  • Partner with IT teams on architecture, code review, shared components, data, integrations, security, deployment, and support so AI capabilities meet existing standards and fit existing systems.
  • Work with data-owning teams to source, shape, and validate use-case data, and run pilots with intended users to incorporate their feedback.
  • Build practical evaluation and monitoring into AI solutions to make quality, failure modes, latency, cost, and model or provider changes visible and manageable.
  • Consult with Members, through Member Technology and other appropriate teams, on AI opportunities, use cases, tool selection, implementation approaches, controls, and adoption.
  • Explain technical tradeoffs, risks, and realistic implementation options to Members in terms suited to their business and technical environments.
  • Support Member pilots and proofs of concept with the teams that will own or support the resulting solutions.
  • Bring lessons from Member conversations and pilots into UniPro standards, reusable patterns, and Member-facing solutions.
  • Communicate what is ready for production, what requires validation, and where additional controls or support are needed.
  • Partner with IT leadership and appropriate IT teams to establish and maintain processes for evaluating, approving, building, and releasing AI capabilities.
  • Apply controls appropriate to each use case, including data handling and security review, architecture and code quality, testing and evaluation, documentation, production ownership, monitoring, and maintainability.
  • Help define when additional review, approval, or training is required before AI tools or features are broadly available, and provide users with guidance for safe and effective use.
  • Contribute use cases, feasibility and effort assessments, and sequencing recommendations to the AI roadmap, and deliver against the roadmap with responsible teams.
  • Track AI developments, test new models, frameworks, and providers when practically warranted, and advise leadership and IT teams on opportunities, tradeoffs, and risks.
  • Document the business case, technical approach, controls, and results for material pilots and production solutions to support evidence-based decisions about scaling, reworking, or stopping them.
  • Document technical patterns, experiments, findings, and recommendations so successful work can be reused.
  • Support cross-team adoption and ongoing improvement of approved AI capabilities.
  • Participate in special projects as instructed by IT leadership and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work across IT teams, business units, leadership, technology vendors, AI platform providers, implementation partners, technical resources, Members, and Member technology or business teams.
